Ushers
Do you collect tithes and offerings as a part of worship on Sunday mornings? Do you use ushers to do so? How do you go about selecting those ushers? Do you use the same 4 or 6 men every week? Do you have a rotation of individuals? Or perhaps, you just use the first people who stand up and are willing to help on any given Sunday.
Ushers are a part of every single worship service we do in nearly every congregation. But, how often do we put thought into who serves as an usher? Being an usher on Sunday morning is a fantastic way to get people involved in a bigger way within the life of the church.
So, here are five ways to spruce up your old way of doing things and possibly get more people involved with worship.
1. Ask children and youth to be an usher – I can remember when I was a kid, I was able to serve as an usher with my dad and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
2. Ask someone, anyone, new to serve – if you have been using the same 4-6 people for 15 years, let someone else get a chance to serve every now and again.
3. Ask women to be ushers too – Not just on special Sunday’s, but all the time.
4. If you don’t currently have one, consider asking several folks to be ushers and begin a rotation of some sort – The more the merrier.
5. And finally, be intentional about asking people to serve as an usher. This small and often overlooked aspect of worship could just be the toe in the door someone in your congregation is looking for.
