Psalm 119:17-32 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
Deal bountifully with your servant,
so that I may live and observe your word.
Open my eyes, so that I may behold
wondrous things out of your law.
I live as an alien in the land;
do not hide your commandments from me.
My soul is consumed with longing
for your ordinances at all times.
You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones,
who wander from your commandments;
take away from me their scorn and contempt,
for I have kept your decrees.
Even though princes sit plotting against me,
your servant will meditate on your statutes.
Your decrees are my delight,
they are my counselors.
My soul clings to the dust;
revive me according to your word.
When I told of my ways, you answered me;
teach me your statutes.
Make me understand the way of your precepts,
and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
My soul melts away for sorrow;
strengthen me according to your word.
Put false ways far from me;
and graciously teach me your law.
I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I set your ordinances before me.
I cling to your decrees, O Lord;
let me not be put to shame.
I run the way of your commandments,
for you enlarge my understanding
Reflect
Now that my husband and I are retired, we enjoy traveling. Usually we spend time researching and contemplating routes, costs, and mileage long before we leave due to the unfamiliarity of new journeys.
Prior to our most recent trip, we had an exceptionally busy schedule. So much so, we didn’t do our normal research and planning. Depending heavily on technology, we packed and took off. After 7 hours of driving and road weary, we arrived at our city of destination totally unprepared for the complexity of the route mapped for us. There were street repairs, detours, heavy traffic, and inadequate marked route directions. For the next forty minutes we drove in circles with our electronic companion recalculating the route but not giving new information. It became painfully obvious, in our busyness and rush we failed to spend enough time studying, relying mainly on our human ability. We had not consulted a map or atlas at all.
Psalms 119: 19 and 25, refers to us as sojourners, strangers, that cleave unto the dust of this place. This world is not our home. We need a map to maneuver successfully through the passages of life. In today’s scripture, the Psalmist points us to God’s precepts. His Holy Word is our guide. Will you set aside your agenda daily to meditate in it, receiving Godly wisdom, revelation knowledge, and strength for your journey?
Pray
Dear Lord, Almighty God and Father, I bow humbly before You, giving thanks and praise to You. Father, You are my fortress, my strength and refuge. I confess that I have given into human pride and ask forgiveness for this sin. I commit that Your Word is a lamp unto my feet, and light unto my path during every passage of life. In the precious name of Jesus I pray, Amen
Go with God!
