Focus
Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.

Matthew 5:13-16 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Reflect
I became a Christian when I was 19 years old. I was in a vo-tech school, but after my conversion, I felt called to the ministry. I chose to attend Johnson University in Knoxville, TN. I did not know a lot about the Christian faith. I just knew I had an experience with Jesus Christ and I made it my mission to find out more about Him. While there I met some people that were salt and light. One was an older lady who volunteered at the school cafeteria. Her husband was a professor at the college, she was retired and loved to serve God and the students at the university. She was salt. She seasoned life at the college with her encouragement, love, and service. Salty foods cause us to be thirsty and reach for something to drink. Her life was salty, it caused me to yearn for more of God. I wanted, and still want, to be like her. I want to know God the way she knows God.
Another person I met was a professor. He was light. He helped me to think like a Christian. He knew 7 languages, but above that he knew the hearts of the students and he always shared light to us. He had a light that was gained from his study of scripture, but he also had a light that was derivative of his relationship to God. There is not enough ink to list the names of students he was able to lift up from the doldrums of life. He was a human lighthouse for us, students, always helping us walk in the light as we journeyed through our life of faith.
I praise God for these two, and I praise God for the countless number of people in the church who are salt and life. I pray that one day I have shown the same characteristics as these two I write about today.
Pray
Holy God, you bring joy and light into our lives, community, and the world. Help us to be people who reflect Your joy and light wherever we are and wherever You may lead us. Help us to lead others to joy and light. Amen
