And above the dome over their heads there was something like a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was something that seemed like a human form. Upward from what appeared like the loins I saw something like gleaming amber, something that looked like fire enclosed all around; and downward from what looked like the loins I saw something that looked like fire, and there was a splendor all around. Like the bow in a cloud on a rainy day, such was the appearance of the splendor all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of someone speaking. He said to me: O mortal, stand up on your feet, and I will speak with you.

Reflect

Ezekiel experienced the splendor of God. Brilliant light surrounded the figure of God “like the rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day” (Ezekiel 1:28). God’s brilliance in nature is so evident at this time of year. Trees leaf out, flowers bloom, birds return from their winter homes and hibernating animals emerge – the earth comes back to life after the dormancy of winter. Scripture reminds us that all creation points to the Creator (see Romans 1:20).

Spring is a season of rebirth and renewal – both in nature and in our own lives. We celebrate our resurrected LORD, coming back to life. As the days grow longer and warmer, we feel more alive. Take a walk around your neighborhood. What signs of new life do you see in nature? What signs of new life do you see among your neighbors?
What is God calling you to renew in your own life this season? Are you willing to partner with him on this journey?

Pray

LORD of all Creation, renew our hearts today. Open our eyes to see your radiance in nature, in our neighbors, and in ourselves. Help us to cast off the darkness of the long winter and embrace the rebirth and renewal of this season. May we find joy in nature and remember that all creation points to you as Creator.
