Focus
Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.
Read
Psalm 121 (NRSV)
I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and forevermore.
Reflect
Where were you on September 11, 2001? That moment in history that stopped people in their tracks, reminding us that all of God’s creation is vulnerable to the forces of violence and destruction. But strangely, it also reminded us that our strength and our help are not limited to the resources on earth. Our churches were full as we remembered, “My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.”
Let us remember on this day, and on all days, that our living Lord will “keep (us) from all evil.” Let us draw near to our God and live out the eternal life and love God brings to us even in the midst of destruction. Thanks be to God.
Pray
Holy God, watch over us. Keep us near to you, and remind us of your eternal presence. Show us your amazing grace and your endless love, and help us be open to receiving them. Fill us with your life-giving Spirit and give us your peace. Help us to embody grace, love, and peace as we live out the way of your kingdom, starting here and now, and lasting forever. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Go with God.
