Read
Psalm 145:8-9, 14-21 (NRSV)
The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The LORD is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.
…
The LORD upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.
The LORD is just in all his ways,
and kind in all his doings.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of all who fear him;
he also hears their cry, and saves them.
The LORD watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD,
and all flesh will bless his holy name forever and ever.
Reflect
In July, my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They met as teenagers and married a couple of years after high school graduation. As with most marriages, it has not always been easy. There have been times of difficulty, loss of loved ones, financial strains, and disagreements, but one thing has always remained present—their unwavering faith devoted to a Christ-centered marriage. It is evident in the way they have chosen to live their lives, raise their children, and worship in their church.
My parent’s relationship reflects the message of this psalm. God loves us, watches over us, and protects us. We praise God not because of the good things God provides, but because of who God is in our lives. When we live our lives with God as the focus, it is easy to give praise for all things. Lift your voice to God in thanksgiving in all circumstances.
Pray
Lord, we praise your name! You are merciful, loving, and steadfast. In all things, I lift your name. Amen
Go with God.
